Lucky Chimney Sweeper
Traditionally, it is considered extremely good luck on your wedding day,
if on the journey to the venue, you see a chimney sweep, and even greater
good luck if you see the sweep’s brush emerging out of the top of a chimney.
So to this day to see a chimney sweep and receive the ‘the kiss of luck’
after the wedding ceremony is supposed to bring good fortune to the newly
married couple.
Ido Weddings can arrange for Dave, a genuine sweep, to attend
the Church service or reception in full regalia bringing with him all the
luck you need on your special day.
He appears while the much-loved song “Chim Chimney, Chim Chimney” is playing.
He shakes hands with the Groom and receives a kiss from the bride, much to the
pleasant surprise of the wedding guests. A recital of the song lyrics follows
then the sweep then wishes the Bride & Groom good luck for the future. The
couple is presented with a framed copy of the poem and a miniature sack containing
a piece of lucky coal, bread and salt. The guests are able to take photos of
these delightful proceedings which will form treasured memories of this wonderful
occasion.
