Religious Wedding Venues
Traditionally, Cyprus is a Greek Orthodox country, but it is possible for
couples to be wed in the Anglican or Catholic tradition and to receive blessings
in a wide variety of venues.
Cyprus Blessings
Blessings have grown in popularity in Cyprus as it allows couples who are already
married to re-new their vows on this romantic Island of Love.
For those who married in a town hall with a civil ceremony, a blessing can add
something personal and memorable to their declaration of love by adding a more
intimate touch to the original vows.
Cyprus Catholic Wedding Ceremonies
There are a number of beautiful and historical church and chapel venues in Paphos
for your Catholic ceremony. Such a service should reflect your values and beliefs
about marriage as it is a religious ceremony and will be conducted as such.
Please also be aware that in order for a Catholic ceremony to be legal in Cyprus an informal ceremony must take place at the municipality beforehand.
Cyprus Anglican Wedding Ceremonies
The Anglican Church ceremony is one of the most popular choices of ceremonies
performed in Cyprus.
The venue selection for this service includes quaint and picturesque chapels
and churches.
Couples now also have the opportunity to have an Anglican wedding ceremony at
most hotel chapels, widening the selection for our couples and making it easier
for you to hold your ceremony on the day of your choice.
Your Choice
Whether you hold your ceremony in an atmospheric church or chapel or outside
in the glorious Cyprus weather, Ido Weddings will ensure that
the magic of the day will be remembered forever.
Blessings Service
Useful Information
Venues
Many hotel chapels are available for a blessing although it is important
to note that no blessings are available at the Ayia Kyriaki church. Otherwise,
a blessing can take place almost anywhere! Perhaps you would like to renew
your vows on the beach, in hotel gardens or grounds, in a private villa or
on a boat. Whatever you choose, Ido Weddings will help you arrange a spiritual ceremony
that will stay in your hearts forever.
Service
A Blessings service lasts approximately 25 minutes and is performed in English.
Marriage and Blessings
Should a couple choose to have a blessing ceremony and are not already married
to each other they will be required to have an informal civil wedding to
obtain the compulsory marriage licence before their chosen wedding date.
This is to ensure that the marriage is legal in Cyprus. Of course for those
who are already married to each other and require a blessing only, they will
be exempt from this rule, therefore no compulsory marriage licence is required.
Fees
The fee for the blessing has been set by church officials. No further charges
have been incurred by I Do Wedding Company either for
the blessing fee, or for the compulsory marriage licence fee.
Catholic Service
Useful Information
Catholic ceremonies can be held at either the St George chapel, Ayia Kyriaki
church or inside one of the numerous hotel chapels now operating in Paphos.
The service lasts for approximately 25 minutes.
The ceremony is arranged and performed by a team of Catholic Church officials
from the UK and is conducted in English.
Before, during and after the wedding, CD classical music will be played along
with chosen hymns to be sung by the couple and guests. Couples are welcome
to bring their own CD but it must be in keeping with classical or easy listening
music.
This detail would be discussed and arranged during the couple’s pre-marriage
meeting in Cyprus, organised by a personal Ido wedding planner
and church officials.
Photos and video would normally be taken professionally or personally during
the ceremony. However, Ido Weddings strongly advises the
service of a professional due to the nature of the day. Following the marriage
there will be ample time for further photos or video outside the chapel or
church.
Marriage Licence
After a Catholic ceremony, the marriage licence is issued immediately. The
document is in English and does not need to be altered in any way nor registered
on your return to the UK. The licence can be used to make any changes with
any official documents such as passports or bank information if necessary.
Ido Weddings would suggest that you obtain an extra copy of
the licence on your wedding day. The current cost for this is €13.67.
Necessary Documents
All Irish and English Catholics will be required to bring along their baptismal
certificates and inform their local priest that they wish to marry outside
of their parish. Irish passport holders will also be required to bring along
original “freedom to marry certificates” obtained by the Ministry of Affairs
in Ireland.
